BADMINTON: VETERANS PREPARE FOR TOURNAMENT
KADUNA- Exclusive Badminton and NDA Badminton clubs Kaduna have begun a drive to make badminton popular amongst Nigerians through a tournament for its veterans in the state.
Usman A. Usman, national umpire and ex-player of the game said the planned “All Veteran Badminton Championship” slated for April 23 -25 in Kaduna would attract veterans from across the country who will be participating in the game and show another sporting activity with valuable opportunities for professional players in various categories.
Usman also stated that the decision to use veteran tournament as a platform to further elicit public interest towards the game was predicated on the fact that badminton can accommodate all ages for play both for liesure and competition thus its expanded opportunity to all and sundry.
According to him, “If you are aged you cannot play basket ball, volleyball or football, also, the challenges of playmates come as you would require between six or more persons to play but with badminton you and your wife or any other one person like a sister or brother suffice and a maximum of four for double play.”
He said badminton is one of the growing racket games that can easily be engaged by the aged for the fact that the racket used for playing the game is very light and handy to anyone thus making it attractive game for all ages.
The organizers of the championship are calling on all and sundry to support the game so as to popularize it among Nigerians of all ages and make them tap into the immense benefits the game provides individuals and teams.
As a measure to shorre up the game, it has contracted Savannah Media, a media solution outfit to publicize the pre tournament activities.
