FG MAPS SHORELINES TO COMBAT OIL SPILL

ABUJA: Minister of Environment, John Odey has assured that the federal government was committed to the implementation of the master plan for the development of the Niger Delta Region.
The minister gave this assurance at the presentation of the Environment Sensitivity Index, ESI, Mapping of the shorelines aimed at activating effective response to oil spill incidence in the country.
The ESI captured eight states of the shoreline extending from Lagos to Calaber including another 50 kilometers inward of the areas covered. Other states captured are Ondo, Edo, Delta Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom.
Odey said “the index mapping is essential to preserve and protect our fragile ecosystem from the impact of oil spillage”.
